My doctor and nurse would lead the group on various topics, but it wasn't like a class: it was a discussion, a group of pregnant women together on a journey with health care providers investing in our well-being, our health, the health of our babies, and most importantly giving us a safe environment to learn the facts that would get us to our goals.
– Centering Pregnancy Mom
Centering gives you the understanding that you’re not alone… It made me definitely more confident to be ready to be a mom.
– CenteringParenting participant, UH Rainbow Center for Women & Children
I get to know my patients in a completely different way and can do so much more for them. As a provider, it is very powerful.
– Dr. Michelle Gallas, East Austin Community Care Clinic
We live in a world with a lot of harshness... and it’s beautiful to see women holding someone else’s hand while she cries over something she’s stressed about.

FAQ

How many visits do I receive?

Centering group prenatal care follows the recommended schedule of 10 prenatal visits, but each visit is 90 minutes to two hours long - giving women 10x more time with their provider. You’ll start each visit with a one-on-one check-in with your provider, followed by shared conversation and learning with your group.

What does support look like here?

Providers and support staff lead facilitative discussions and interactive activities designed to address important and timely health topics while leaving room to discuss what is important.

Do I receive a bump check every visit?

What do we talk about in group settings?

Everything from nutrition, common discomforts, stress management, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, and infant care.

How many other patients will be in my group?

Groups usually include 8 to 10 expectant parents.

What is the benefit of the group care model?

It allows patients to relax and get to know each other on a much deeper and meaningful level. Members of the group usually form lasting friendships and become connected in ways not possible in traditional care.
